We interview our members: Esports UB

The mission of Esports UB is to provide services in the field of sports, health and leisure thanks to its 100,000 m2 of sports facilities at the University of Barcelona.

-What type of services are offered and what differentiates you from any other sports center?

As it can be consulted on the web, Esports UB includes the field of fitness, water, directed activities, and sports of pavilion and outdoors, like most centers. As for the facilities, as differential features, I would highlight that in some of them we have natural football and rugby fields, which is not so usual nowadays. As for the activities, the University Leagues of Barcelona are developed, with 2,480 participants from more than 200 teams.

-We understand that the main audience of the Servei Esports UB is the university community, but can anyone who wants to subscribe?

You can pay any person not linked to the UB, but without enjoying the discount rate that the UB Community has. The fee for your subscription is € 41 per month.

-How do you help high level athletes to make their physical activity compatible with university studies?

There is a reception and tutoring program for high level athletes recognized by the CSD or the Secretary General d'Esports. In each center where there are some of these athletes, they are assigned a tutor who helps them plan the studies by combining them with their sports practice. This program is coordinated from Esports UB by mutual agreement with the centers.

-What are the future challenges of Esports UB?

- Increase of subscribers or users of groups in the morning time slot

- Dissemination of the centers as sports facilities for the entire city

- Incorporation of sports of current trend

- Facilities update

- As members of INDESCAT, Esports UB has participated in the various work groups that have been organized from the cluster. Recently they have attended the course "Energy Management in sports facilities". What does it mean to be part of INDESCAT and why do you think it is necessary to address issues related to energy efficiency?

For installations inaugurated in 1957, its update on energy efficiency issues is peremptory. We have a design and machinery that is not adapted to the new standards of energy efficiency.
